Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV)
Thank you for caring enough about me that you desire to know what lay hidden in my heart. You desire for me walk with you, in obedience and fellowship. You desire a relationship with me, built on trust and love. Though I do not deserve this, you actively pursue me for your own righteousness sake! Thank you for continually pursuing me.
Father, often I complicate my walk with you. It can be difficult for me to comprehend that salvation was accomplished at the cross, and is impossible to earn. Subconsciously, I add works, traditions, and religious activities as requirements to knowing you. Yet, your Word is clear.
You desire that I love you with my whole heart, soul, mind, and strength – and my neighbor as myself. The love that you require is demonstrated through a walk of obedience. Help me to walk in obedience. Keep ever before me this truth: a walk of obedience begins with a submitted heart. Lord, please search my heart, and teach me to examine it persistently. Do not allow me to ignore sinful thoughts. Teach me to resist and rebuke thoughts that lead me away from loving you and others. Convict me when there is sin in my heart or mind. Reveal the root of my sin, and help me turn those darkened areas of rebelliousness over to you so that I would be healed and delivered from the entanglement of sin. Replace my stubborn heart with a heart that is willingly submissive to you. Replace a rebellious mind with one that praises you always, and prays to you without ceasing. And as you continue this work in me, lead me toward eternity on a path of obedience. Help me to understand that by submitting to you in this manner, I will come to know and trust you.
In Jesus name I pray this. I love you.
